Bio-inspired methods for analysis and classification of reading eye movements of dyslexic children

چکیده
The paper describes real practical problem of analyzing diagnostic significance of dyslexic eye movements. The biologically inspired methods were used and compared with classical methods of artificial intelligence. Eye movements of 52 school children were measured using videooculographic (VOG) technique, during a reading task. There were three groups of subjects – normal readers, retarded readers and dyslexics. The main goal was to analyze the possibility of dyslexia detection only from the eye movement signal. Time and frequency domain features were extracted and subset of significant features was chosen by a simple feature selection method. The selected feature subset was visualized using a self-organizing map (SOM). Clusters were formed by the SOM proving that proposed methodology is suitable for automatic dyslexia detection. Next, the artificial neural network classifier was used for supervised learning and the performance was compared to the results obtained for nearest neighbour classifier or the Bayes classifier.

Oculomotor rehabilitation in children with dyslexia
Background: Dyslexia is the most common learning disorder. Visual and oculomotor deficits in dyslexic children have been reported. The purpose of this study was to measure oculomotor parameters and analyze the effect of oculomotor rehabilitation strategies on dyslexia. Methods: Binocular eye movements were recorded by oculomotor subtype of videonystagmography (VNG) testing on 30 children with ...
متن کاملBinocular saccade coordination in reading and visual search: a developmental study in typical reader and dyslexic children
Studies dealing with developmental aspects of binocular eye movement behavior during reading are scarce. In this study we have explored binocular strategies during reading and visual search tasks in a large population of dyslexic and typical readers. Binocular eye movements were recorded using a video-oculography system in 43 dyslexic children (aged 8-13) and in a group of 42 age-matched typica...
متن کاملImmaturity of the Oculomotor Saccade and Vergence Interaction in Dyslexic Children: Evidence from a Reading and Visual Search Study
Studies comparing binocular eye movements during reading and visual search in dyslexic children are, at our knowledge, inexistent. In the present study we examined ocular motor characteristics in dyslexic children versus two groups of non dyslexic children with chronological/reading age-matched. Binocular eye movements were recorded by an infrared system (mobileEBT®, e(ye)BRAIN) in twelve dysle...
متن کاملThe eye movements of dyslexic children during reading and visual search: Impact of the visual attention span
The eye movements of 14 French dyslexic children having a VA span reduction and 14 normal readers were compared in two tasks of visual search and text reading. The dyslexic participants made a higher number of rightward fixations in reading only. They simultaneously processed the same low number of letters in both tasks whereas normal readers processed far more letters in reading. Importantly, ...
متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Training of Reading Assistant Package on Dyslexic childrens’ Working Memory - a Multiple Baseline Single Case Study
Introduction: ln literature review, cognitive problems such as poor working memory is considered as one of the main reading problems among dyslexic children. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of Reading Assistant Package training on the working memory of dyslexic children. Methods: The present study was a single-subject research design of multiple baseline types...
